Summer Toys Festival 2014

Toy Festival is one of the extracurricular activities held annually at the Asian International School.

On the morning of July 30, 2014, at Cong Hoa Campus, The final rounds took place in an exciting atmosphere with diverse sections of competition. Many of the AHS students had partaken in the event. The Summer Toy Festival started on June 20th, and after many competitive and challenging rounds, the School Organization Board had chosen several exceptional participants to move on to the final rounds of competition.

This year The Summer Toy Festival 2014 had eight sections of competition (individual and groups) including remote controlled toy aircrafts and race cars. Some of these sections had challenged students to assemble and/ or create their own concepts of toys used in the events. Other sections included Toy Robots, Rubik’s Cube, and Artistic Statue Painting. Students were free to choose competitions according to their own personal interests or hobbies. All eight section of the competition had two parts: Presentation and Practice. The students exemplified the AHS motto of “Study Hard and Play Hard”.

The Students displayed dexterity and creativity thinking when competing with each other at the Festival. In the statue painting competition, the students are free to be creative with colorful paint. They create many beautiful products with the shape of fruit, animal and human. They also create products with image of Asian International School students and celebrities in Gangnam Style dance.

In the Building Block competition, the students had the opportunity to show the solidarity, patience, creativity, and dexterity. The students were able to work together as a team. This collaboration between students resulted in the construction of elaborate homes, sea vessels, and robots to name a few.

All of these creations were constructed from thousands of building blocks in various colors, shapes, and sizes.

Not many students participated in the Yo-Yo competition. The ones who did, displayed focus, creativity, and overall technical skills. Many of their peers were in “Awe” of their talents.

The Rubik’s Cube competition also attracted many candidates with their intelligence.

The remote controlled toy aircraft and race car competitions were encouraged by enthusiastic spectators. This section of the competition had very modern toys with sophisticated controls. Some toys were hand built and assembled by the students themselves. In the race car competition, the students had to get the quickest lap time around the track. In the toy aircraft (flying toy objects) competition, there were helicopters, planes, and UFO’s (unidentified fly objects). This section of the competition was very entertaining to all who participated and attended.

After the competitions were completed, the winners received awards and recognition for their skills and team work. The students were very happy when the Organization Board announced the awards.

The Summer Toy Festival was not only a competitive event, but also an opportunity for the students to interact with each other and improve their team work skills. This event was considered a great success because the school organization board had carefully prepared the content and game rules for each section of the competitions.

The Summer Toy Festival at Asian International School provided an opportunity for the students to participate in a positive and healthy experience. The school hopes that AHS students will develop comprehensive skills in academics and extracurricular activities. The results will bring more progress in creative thinking and overall higher learning for everyone at this dynamic and modern learning environment.

This is the last year I participate at the Summer Toy Festival. We all had the opportunity to experience exciting games and events to help us improve our skills as a team and as individuals. I would like to thank the school management and teachers for creating an interesting playground for us.

Bui Nguyen Thai – Cong Hoa Campus

I was very eager to participate at the Toy Festival 2014. It was a very exciting and festive day. We had the opportunity to participate in a variety of the events in the competition. I personally selected remote-controlled race car event, because it is a personal hobby of mine. I prepared by practicing with a hope of winning the first place in the competition.

Huynh Ngoc Tuyen – Pasteur Campus

This is the third time I competed in the Toy Festival event, and the first time in the Rubik’s Cube competition. My best time was 1’30. Even though some of my friends are faster, I was confident in my performance. It was a very exciting and festive day.

Le Trung Tin – Cong Hoa Campus

I was first introduced to a Yo-Yo while in the fifth grade. I really like playing with the Yo-Yo because it entertain my fellow students and help with my dexterity. I would like to express my gratitude to school management and teachers for holding the Summer Toy Festival and giving me an environment to interact and learn from my peers.
